Disputes over Air Pollution & Odours

The following disputes over pollutants may occur:

  • Chemical smells from factories

  • Smoke from chimneys or incinerators

  • Burning off in the backyard

  • Smells caused by animals

  • Hot air from air-conditioner exhausts

  • Smoky vehicles

If you are concerned about your neighbour's pollution it is best to speak to the person/s causing the problem. If this fails you may report the pollution to your Local Council or the Department of Environment & Climate Change. Here at Quinn's we can advise you of your legal obligation toward any pollution that you may be causing, or advise you about what can be done to deal with the dispute.

Industrial Premises

If your neighbour causes large-scale industrial pollution, they may be scheduled under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act. Complaints may be lodged with the Department of Environment & Climate Change, and fines and other penalties may be imposed.

If you need more information or assistance with dealing with neighbourhood disputes over air pollution and unsightly odours. Complete and submit the Express Enquiry form on the top right hand side of this page and we will contact you to discuss your enquiry or call us on 1300 QUINNS (1300 784 667) or on +61 2 9223 9166 to arrange an appointment.
